Foggy Ice Fishing and Some News.

Last Sunday, we headed out for our first ice fishing trip of the season. There had been enough ice on Mud Lake to fish on for about two weeks, but Sunday was our first chance at it.

Unfortunately, the cold snap we had in November and early December broke. With temps in the 40s, the ice was still safe on most of the lake, but there was a layer of water over the top of it. On this particular day, the warmer air over the colder ground and lake made for pea soup fog conditions.

Lots of ice holes. Warm weather meant most of them were still open.

Waiting.

Waiting.

Our shanty, maybe 50 yards away.

No fish on the day, though we marked plenty. This spot had been receiving heavy pressure for weeks now. We’re hoping to head out this coming weekend to fish somewhere else, provided the ice is safe.

In other news, my work is now going to be reaching a wider audience. Some of my archived content as well as some new posts will be appearing over at http://hitchnfish.com/ . Just this week, I became a contributor there. It will be interesting and fun to connect with more people. I’m excited.

    • Thank you! Now that she’s on the trailer, we hope to get her up to a mechanic to get the engine dropped in. Matt’s uncle has said he’ll help us. Hopefully, we can fish the Spring salmon run on Lake Michigan!
